Climate Change

The UN Conference on Climate Change keeps going on with negotiations as the US keep defending their theories on economy over ecology.

I hoped that after all the natural disasters facing the US this year, people there could realise the dumbness and responsability of their Government.

But the fact is that the US are still resisting to Protocols to reduce emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.

Of course there are some nice initiatives, but there also amazing comments, like:

"Global warming is at best a THEORY and the thought that we can some how control the earth's temperature is presumptuous. False information is our biggest threat."

"The biggest environmental threat is over-reaction to it."

"The biggest problem is air pollution and the current increasing standard of living in China and India, which, with additional cars and trucks will add further to the demise of the atmosphere."

I'm fed up with this: how can be US citizens so narrow minded (I'm not calling them americans - as they and everyone else do - not to offend the other americans, from North and South America) .

But the fact is that the US are still resisting to Protocols to reduce emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.

Could we please have a Hurricane Katrina over the White House???

Because the "so called" theories are insisting in more and more effects: rising temperatures, rising sea levels, changes in rainfall and stronger storms and changes in the circulation of the ocean's currents.

Everybody discusses the effects of rising sea level (affecting entire countries in Oceania but also US states like Florida, California and Louisiana , for instance).

But the fact is that the US are still resisting to Protocols to reduce emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.

The effects are global and we all have to realise this, because not even selfishess can be an excuse. For instance, pay attention to information on the changes in ocen's currents which are expected to affect northwest Europe.

This information is widely spread and acessible for everyone. Anyone can get to know more about climate change issues (oficial versions) here.

But the fact is that the US are still resisting to Protocols to reduce emissions of heat-trapping greenhouse gases.

If only we could replace Mr. Bush for a more developed specimens...
